Plainfield UDO Team Connects with Residents at National Night Out

On August 4, the Plainfield Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) team joined the annual National Night Out celebration at Settlers’ Park. This community event brought together families from across Plainfield for an evening of music, entertainment, activities, and opportunities to connect with local law enforcement and community organizations.

More than 200 residents stopped by the Plainfield UDO booth to learn about the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) update and talk with the project team. The UDO project will modernize the Village’s zoning and development regulations by combining the current Zoning Ordinance and Subdivision Code into a single, user-friendly document. Once adopted, the UDO will serve as a practical tool for future growth by establishing clear standards for land use and development while supporting community and economic development, sustainability, and natural resource preservation.

Many visitors discovered which zoning district their property is located in and had the opportunity to ask questions about the Village’s zoning regulations. Before heading to the next activity, kids enjoyed spinning the Zoning Wheel to win a small giveaway.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat with us. Events like National Night Out are a great opportunity to raise awareness of the UDO project, hear from residents, and encourage ongoing community participation as the project moves forward.

Next Step

The next major project milestone will be a meeting with the Village of Plainfield Plan Commission on October 6, 2026. At this meeting, the Plan Commission will review and discuss the draft regulations for zoning districts, land uses, and definitions. Subscribe for more updates!
